Fire bans continue despite wet weather

Despite the recent rain and humidity, the fire danger remains high in Southern Colorado.
Fire bans are still in place in both Colorado Springs and unincorporated El Paso County.
Captain Jesse Ortiz with the Colorado Springs Fire Department says all of the the moisture is helping, but one or two windy days could quickly dry out the vegetation.
"If there are high winds, if there are relatively hot and dry days the moisture that we saw on Monday may very well be gone by mid-week and then we are back up to a high fire danger," Ortiz said.
The burn ban means that campfires, cookouts and even smoking are all prohibited in all public parks. Fireworks of any kind are always illegal within city limits.
