More than 6,000 people along with 700 volunteers, are expected Saturday at the Feed the Children event at Phil Long Expo Center.
Feed the Children is a partnership between the El Paso County Department of Human Services, The Music Evangelism Foundation, Goodwill Industries and a long list of other donors and volunteers. It is a one day event just before Christmas where the families already receiving help from the Department of Human Services are able to enjoy a day of celebration and receive food, toys, books and toiletries.
Last year more than 4,000 people receiving services from the Department of Human Services benefited from Feed the Children. This year the need is even greater with the number of people in our community qualifying for assistance continuing to increase. Through donations from many community partners this year 10 semi-trucks full of supplies were bought to serve the families. Last year seven truck loads were delivered.
Children's toys are still needed for the estimated 4,000 kids expected to attend. Toy donations will be accepted at both Whole Foods locations in Colorado Springs and at the County Office Building at 27 E. Vermijo through Thursday, December 16th.
