GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The FBI is investigating after a Frontier Airlines crew reported that someone aimed a laser pointer - presumably from the ground - into the cockpit while the plane was flying over western Colorado.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor tells the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (http://bit.ly/ZFStTc ) the crew of Flight 769 reported that a green laser illuminated the entire cockpit around 7:30 p.m. March 29. The Airbus A319 was flying over the Palisade area near Grand Junction.
It was unclear how many people were on board at the time.
FBI spokesman Dave Joly says the incidents are common around Denver International Airport but rare in western Colorado. He declined to comment specifically about the investigation.
Gregor says lasers pointed at planes can be "incredibly distracting," and in some cases pilots have suffered temporary blindness.
