Father to be charged in death of 8-year-old girl

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office will proceed with a charge of 1st Degree Murder in the death of an 8-year-old girl over the weekend.
Officers found the body of Desirea French in a mobile home at 33550 Highway 96 in Pueblo County on Sunday evening. She had been shot in the head.
Her father, John French Jr., 32, was found in a bedroom. According to the arrest affidavit released this morning, French suffered gunshot wounds to the back of his head and his right hand.
At one point Sunday evening French reportedly told an investigator he was depressed and "didn't want to be here anymore." He said he remembers shooting himself but nothing else. Though at one point he did say "I can't believe I did that to my daughter."
French was notified of the murder charge last night in a local hospital. He is expected to be discharged from the hospital today and then will be moved to the Pueblo County Jail.
