Like most couples Magen and Josh had dreams of growing old together. They got married and soon started a family. Their family also included a six year-old weimaraner named Nala.

"I feel in love with her as soon as I met her ", said Magen Mills. "She's a loyal, very friendly, wouldn't hurt a fly type of dog".

But their dreams would quickly fade away. Josh was killed instantly when his tank was hit with a bomb while he was serving his second tour in Afghanistan. Now their family of four was down to three.

"I went from it's Malaki, its me, its Nala. We can get through this", said Magen Mills.

Magen and her son now had to depend on a new protector.

"She kept me safe. She intimidated people. She was my protector", said Magen Mills.

But four weeks ago, Nala slipped out of her backyard taking another piece of Josh with her.

"It's another reminder that he's gone and Nala's gone too", said Magen Mills. "I was hoping when Malaki grows up he would have Nala to play with knowing this was his daddy's dog. And now that can't happen."

Now Magen is holding onto the only dream that turned out right, her two year-old son. And their message for whoever finds Nala...

"Please give Nala back and I miss her", said two year-old Malaki.

It's a plea their hoping will help put what's left of their family back together.
