Family grieves over 3-year-old boy's death

Josiah Mendoza had a face that could light up a room.  The 3-year-old boy from Pueblo died in a fire Monday night.  The Pueblo Fire Department says the boy was playing with matches in the bedroom and caught the mattress on fire.

Tuesday, Josiah's family gathered to grieve.  Family members hope other children and families will learn about the importance of fire safety, something they thought they had covered well with their children.

"Tell them you love them, because you never know what is going to happen to you.  We never thought this could happen to us," explains Ken Cortez, Josiah's uncle.

Josiah's brother (Tony Mendoza, 8) and sister (Angel Salazar, 9) fight back tears as they hug their uncle.

Angel says she remembers Josiah's love for playing with cars.

"He had a smile and he gave us hugs and kiss and say, 'Goodnight.  Go to bed,'" says Angel, with tears running down her face.

A fund has been set up for the family.  Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo to the Tammy & Josiah Mendoza fund.  Tammy is Josiah's mother.  Funeral arrangements are pending.
