The Air Force football team is again picked to finish fourth in the Mountain West Conference. That's according to a poll of media members which was released several weeks ago in Las Vegas.
The Falcons have finished fourth the past two seasons and many close to the program think this could be the year that Air Force breaks into the top-3 which has recently been dominated by TCU, BYU and Utah.
The potential is certainly there. The Falcons return ten starters from last year's 8-5 team, which upset Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl.
News First 5 Sports Director Lee Douglas recently visited Air Force practice and asked some of the players what they thought of the Falcons' preseason ranking.
Cornerback Anthony Wright, a first-team all conference preseason pick says, "I'll take it with a grain of salt. If that's what everybody thinks then fine. So we have to work hard to prove everybody wring."
Cornerback Reggie Rembert, another first-team preseason pick was pretty emphatic when he said, "Reggie Rembert-I don't think its right and I'm not going to say anything else. We'll see how it plays out in the end."
"It is what it is," said quarterback Tim Jefferson. "Hopefully we'll go out and show on the field and not on paper that we're better than fourth."
The Falcons open the season at home on September 4, against Northwestern State.
