The board of fast-growing Falcon School District 49 has approved a plan to cut 92 positions, but administrators are hoping attrition and retirements will make layoffs unnecessary.
The plan approved Wednesday would save an estimated $5 million as school districts statewide deal with state budget cuts. Overall, the district must slash about $7.5 million from its $100 million budget for 2010-11. Administrators expect to have to cut $7 million more for the 2011-12 school year.
The district has about 14,400 students. It grew by around 780 students last year.
