Many people in Canon City face clean-up, damage assessment and repairs in the aftermath of flash-flooding earlier in the week. "It was just a wall of water," said Becky Kelly who lives in the area. Kelly says the usually dry stream bed near her house looked more like the Arkansas River.
The force of the water exposed utility lines and left trees hanging by roots where water washed away top soil. On Kelly's property, what used to be a horse pasture with some rocks, is now completely covered with piles of large rocks "The flow of the water is just unbelievable. Just the force of nature and you would never think that I could happen like this."
Other neighbors have yards covered with mud. County crews had to clear roads with graders. Some roads have orange cones at the edge to keep drivers away from damage caused by erosion. County leaders say it will likely take several days to fully assess the damage.
