How's this for bad luck? About a year ago Laurice Pillar bought a crossword puzzle scratch ticket. At the time she didn't realize it was a winner, set it aside and subsequently lost it.
This week, when she was cleaning out her address book she found the ticket again and realized she'd won $160,000. But, when she went to cash it in, the lotto office told her it was beyond the redemption period.
"There's no expiration date, no validation date, front or back, it doesn't say when the game ends," a frustrated Pillar said.
Lotto spokeswoman Erika Gonzalez said that her office will review Pillar's ticket. In general, she says there is a 180 day redemption period for all lotto games including scratch tickets. However, the redemption period for scratch tickets begins when the sale of the tickets is finished.
