CORTEZ, Colo. (AP) - A former Montezuma County finance director accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the county has pleaded guilty to theft charges.
The Cortez Journal reports Mary Ann Sanders struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of felony theft and one count of misdemeanor theft. She was initially charged in August with three felony counts of theft, eight felony counts of embezzlement and one misdemeanor count of official misconduct.
Prosecutors say between December 2009 and February 2011, Sanders stole about $8,000 from the county's petty cash fund.
The plea deal calls for restitution, three years of probation and a jail cap of 30 days. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
