Ex-Loveland teacher facing deportation after sex charge guilty plea

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - A former teacher in Loveland is being deported to the United Kingdom after pleading guilty to the sexual exploitation of a 17-year-old female student.

The Coloradoan reports ( ) Gawain Jay Roberts, who is Welsh, received a suspended six-year prison sentence. His criminal case triggered deportation proceedings, and immigrations officials took him into custody Monday.

Roberts resigned from the Thompson School District in Loveland in October. He had taught a small group of high school-aged students through an alternative-education program based at Ferguson High School.

Charges were filed against him last year after a student said her teacher took inappropriate pictures of her.
