The last man on the run following a prison break in northwest Arizona is back behind bars.
John McCluskey and fiancee Casslyn Welch, who's also his cousin, were captured Thursday evening at an Arizona campsite, just 300 miles east of the prison.
Authorities say a ranger with the U.S. Forest Service spotted an unattended campfire and a car that looked like someone was trying to hide. When the ranger talked to McCluskey, he got fidgety. It wasn't long before a SWAT team swarmed on the couple.
Authorities say Welch reached for a weapon, but dropped it when she realized she was outgunned.
McCluskey told authorities he wishes he would have had the opportunity to shoot the ranger.
Authorities say Welch helped McCluskey and two other inmates break out of a private prison on July 30 by cutting through a security fence. The other two escaped convicts were captured earlier this month.
Welch and McCluskey are also being linked to the slayings of an Oklahoma couple whose burned bodies were found Aug. 4 in New Mexico.
Officials say the stolen car found Thursday had New Mexico license plates stolen around the same time the couple were killed.
