Enforcement along Colorado roadways will once again increase as we hit the 4th of July holiday weekend.
In 2013 alone, 490 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, with 32 of them coming out of Colorado Springs. State Patrol along with Springs Police and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be out in force, in an effort to keep everyone safe and impaired drivers off the road.
This is part of the annual, "the heat is on" campaign which includes over 100 agencies across the state coming together to increase their enforcement efforts.
CDOT and CSP urge drivers to plan ahead and establish a safe ride home before they leave for their celebrations, whether that's riding with a sober driver, calling a cub or using public transit.
The upped enforcement is scheduled to last from Thursday afternoon through 2:00 am on Monday morning. Once those statistics are finalized we'll pass them along to you both on-air and online at KOAA.com.
