PUEBLO COUNTY - A student will not be returning to a Pueblo West Elementary School for writing what administrators call a hit list. The child was enrolled at Sierra Vista Elementary in District 70.
Superintendent Ed Smith said the list held names of classmates who were to be injured. The parents of those children were contacted and notified of the situation.
"In School District 70, as in all the schools throughout the State of Colorado, we take those types of things very, very seriously. Student safety is the most important thing that we do."
District policy is to automatically suspend students who write such lists and then refer them to the expulsion officer. If expulsion is warranted, then the officer would refer the issue to the board of education for approval.
In order to protect the privacy of the student involved in this case, Smith could not say whether expulsion was recommended. All he could say was that the child will not be returning to Sierra Vista.
