There's a new recycling bin, for common recyclables, at the El Paso County Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
You can now drop off things like aluminum, paper, cardboard, glass and plastic, all for free. They'll take plastics numbered one through seven, just look on the bottom of plastic items to see what number they are. They can't take plastic bags, plastic wrap or Styrofoam products.
The new container at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility is a single stream container, meaning you don't have to sort anything. They do ask that you flatten boxes and make sure you clean off any food or liquids left over on any food containers. County officials say anything that has leftovers on it can contaminate the whole bin, and then it will get sent to the landfill.
The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is located at 3255 Akers Dr. that's east of Powers Blvd. and north of Constitution Ave. You can drop off recyclables Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
