Eightmile firefighters aided by lower temps, higher humidity

FREMONT COUNTY - Fire crews are hoping that favorable weather conditions Tuesday will allow them to strengthen the perimeter of the Eightmile Fire burning near Penrose.  The Forest Service tells News 5 that with the cooler temperatures and higher humidity that blew in today, they'll be able to release some some crews/equipment from the fire.

The Eightmile Fire is currently 40% contained and has burned 528 acres.

Much of the smoke visible Monday was from pockets of unburned brush inside the fire lines.

The pre-evacuation notice for 16 homes in the Red Rocks subdivision was lifted Monday evening by the Fremont County Sheriff.

The fire was started last Monday by a lightning strike.
