The Eightmile Fire burning in Fremont County remains at around 500 acres with zero percent containment Saturday night, according to fire officials who updated the status of the fire in a media briefing Saturday afternoon. The lightning-caused fire is burning near Phantom Canyon Road, forcing its closure. The fire is near enough to 16 residences in the Red Rocks subdivision that the people who live there are under pre-evacuation notification, meaning they should be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. An informational meeting for the public was held Saturday night at Canon City High School. The organization Crosses for Losses has been collecting donations for firefighters at various locations throughout Fremont County.
