Eightmile fire lines hold Monday, containment numbers increasing

FREMONT COUNTY - Firefighters made good progress on Monday against a fire burning near Penrose in Fremont County.  According to Incident Commander Dan Dallas, firefighters were able to hold the Eightmile Fire's lines with the help of hot shot crews and air support.  Dallas tells News 5 that he expects the containment percentage to increase drastically from the current 25%.  Dallas warned that he also expects the number of acres burned to increase, as unburned "islands" within the fire lines burned Monday.

Crews were unable to extend their fire lines to some parts of the eastern side due to rough terrain.  One person left the area with dehydration.

The Eightmile Fire, started by a lightning strike, has been burning since last Monday.  Last Friday, the fire jumped from 1/2 acre to over 500 acres in size.
