Eightmile Fire in Fremont County now burning 60 acres

The "Eightmile Fire" fire in eastern Fremont County is growing fast this morning.

The Bureau of Land Management(BLM) says that the fire has grown to 60 acres this morning. The fire started with a lightning strike Monday, and slowly grew to on acre until this morning when wind picked up and fanned the flames .

A type 1 helicopter has been called in to help and 2 other planes have been put on standby. 4 hotshot crews have also been called in to assist the 24 firefighters currently working on the blaze which is in a remote area.

Phantom Canyon Road has been closed.

The fire near Penrose is burning oak and juniper wood and sending huge plumes of smoke into the air which can be seen for miles.

There are no structures threatened and no evacuations at this time.
