Eightmile Fire contained as much as possible, some crews leaving

FREMONT COUNTY - Fire crews have contained the Eightmile Fire as much as they possibly can, according to the incident management team.  As of Wednesday morning, the fire has burned 528 acres and crews have contained 65 percent of the perimeter.  Incident management tells News 5 that firefighters will not be able to contain any more of the perimeter.

Most of the fire crews will be released Wednesday, and will return to their home units.  Local incident management will take over and continue to command one wildland fire crew, two engines and a helicopter.

On Tuesday, a small fire started one mile west of the Eightmile Fire line.  Firefighters and air crews were able to build a line around the fire.

The Eightmile Fire is burning approximately six miles northeast of Cañon City near Penrose.
