Colorado Springs Police and the District Attorney's Office for the 4th Judicial District are investigating the shooting early Sunday morning downtown, including shots fired by Colorado Springs police officer.
It was another busy weekend morning for Springs Police downtown. Just before 2 a.m., they were checking up on a call about a man with a gun.
"There was a bit of a melee going on out there," says Lt. David Whitlock with the Colorado Springs police Department.
It was fighting in the alley, West of the nightclub 13 Pure.
Now police are looking through the remains of a situation that obviously got out of hand.
"Some shots were exchanged," Whitlock says. "One of our officers fired some shots as well."
One man was hit in the gunfire. He was taken to the hospital for injuries and is now in stable condition.
Investigators have spent hours at the scene. It's still unclear whose bullet hit the man.
"We're going to be doing a lot of work on this. There were quite a number of rounds that were fired out in the parking lot," explains Lt. Whitlock.
Several people were taken into custody for questioning shortly after then incident, but no charges have been filed.
"When a bar that's that full on a Saturday night empties, there's a lot of individuals that we're out there," says Whitlock. "So we've got a lot of people that were witnesses and we're trying to diffuse or filter whether or not they're witnesses or active participants."
One participant knows a little about their future. The unnamed officer who fired their weapon will be on routine administrative leave.
Crews remained on the scene well into Sunday with traffic blocked on E. Pikes Peak Ave.
