A Durango high school is open for classes after snow on the school's roof caused a scary rumble.

Students scrambled into hallways at Durango High School Wednesday after a rumble from the roof that sounded like an earthquake. Nobody was hurt. Engineers said the rumble was caused when 20 inches of snow on the roof collapsed on an air pocket.

School officials ordered 8 feet of snow to be removed from the roof where the snow settled. A school official told The Durango Herald that the roof's snow load was at two-thirds capacity, but that snow was removed as a precaution.

Durango fire officials concluded there was no structural damage from the snow shift.

Durango has received 96.8 inches of snow this season. More snow is expected this week.
