Driver dies after crashing into a tree

Early Saturday morning, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Colorado Springs Officers responded to a single car traffic accident in the 3700 block of E. Woodmen Road.
When the Springs officers they saw the front of the black Ford Escort had collided with a tree, which was located in the center median of the roadway. In the vehicle, they found a 59 year-old female.
Colorado Springs Fire Department extracted her from the vehicle and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Witnesses told officers that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on E. Woodmen Road when it lost control and drove on to the median, striking the tree. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification to family by the Coroner.
