COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Colorado Springs police are getting ready for a crackdown on drunk driving.
Officers will participate in the the national 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign.
22 officers will work a total of 125 hours over the next three weekends.
The goal is to get impaired drivers off the streets. the city got a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation in order to fund the extra officers.
According to the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, penalties for a DUI First Offense include: losing your license for nine months; a $600-$1,000 fine; up to one year in jail; up to 96 hours of community service; along with alcohol education courses. Jail time is also a possibility.
The crackdown ends on September 1.
