DENVER (AP) - An equipment drive honoring an aspiring sportscaster who was killed in the Colorado theater shooting has netted more than 25,000 pieces of donated athletic gear, which will be distributed to victims of this summer's destructive wildfires.

Jessica Ghawi was one of 12 people killed in the July 20 shooting in Aurora.

Her mother, Sandy Phillips, tells The Denver Post Saturday's drive was inspired by her daughter's desire after the wildfires in Colorado Springs and Fort Collins to bring sports into the lives of those who had lost everything.

In addition to sports equipment, the event in Denver raised more than $40,000 for Ghawi's scholarship foundation and the nonprofit A Precious Child, which put on the drive.

Phillips says a man who wanted to remain anonymous was the primary money donor.
