Dragging death prompts thousands to sign petition

More than 100,000 people have signed an online petition calling for harsh punishment for a man accused of dragging a dog to death.

Gary Sherman, the creator of a Facebook page called "Demand Justice for Buddy", says 212,000 people across the United States and 111 other countries with about half signing the petition

Thirty-seven-year-old Steven Clay Romero, faces a federal animal cruelty charge for allegedly dragging a German Shepard/Blue Heeler mix named "Buddy" to death on December, 30th in Colorado National Monument. His sister, 32-year-old Melissa Lockhart of Fruita faces felony theft charges for allegedly stealing the dog and telling Romero to get rid of him.

If convicted Romero could face up to three years in a federal prison. Wednesday Sherman will give the petition to the judge in Grand Junction.  That is when Romero is back in Federal court.
