Dozens of dogs removed from Costilla home

COSTILLA COUNTY - 42 Dogs were seized at a home in Costilla County after an animal abuse and neglect investigation, according to the Colorado Humane Society.  The dogs, all shepherd mixes, were taken to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs, Peublo Animal Services, and a shelter in Denver.  The Costilla County Sheriff's Office says there was a concern over the health of the animals, since many of them were malnourished.

The dogs' owner, Rhonda Deffley, could face charges of animal cruelty and neglect.  The investigation is on-going.

The Humane Society plans to adopt the dogs out, after they've received medical care and behavior modification.
