Doping scandal documents released

COLORADO SPRINGS - It was one of the great comeback stories of modern sports history. Recovering from cancer, pro cyclist Lance Armstrong battled his way back to win the Tour de France in 1999, the first of what would become a record seven straight tour victories. Those victories are now tarnished.

On Wednesday, the US Anti-Doping Agency made public thousands of pages of documents from their investigation that show Armstrong and fellow members of the famed US Postal Service team used performance enhancing drugs while competing in those races and were part of a "systemic, sustained and highly-organized team run doping conspiracy."

Among the 11 teammates who gave sworn affidavits in the investigation were Frankie Andreu, Michael Barry, Tom Danielson, Tyler Hamilton, George Hincapie, Floyd Landis, Levi Leipheimer, Stephen Swart, Christian Vande Velde, Jonathan Vaughters and David Zabriskie.

Of those 11, Hincapie, Leipheimer, Vande Velde and Zabriskie are currently listed as members of the USA Cycling team. They were reportedly given six month suspensions.

News 5 contacted USA Cycling for comment. An official response to the USADA announcement has not yet been released.

In August, USADA stripped Armstrong of his titles and banned him from professional cycling for life.
