While most were celebrating the beginning of a new decade with family and friends on New Years, others in Colorado Springs were up to something shocking. The donation box at the Pikes Peak Humane Society was smashed open in the early hours of New Years. Hundreds of dollars of donation money are gone. "They broke into the container that held the cash in it (the donation box), and took that money. As far as we can tell, that's all that's missing at this point." says shelter President and CEO Dr. Wes Metzler. Worse yet, those donations are used to directly take care of the animals. "It's used mostly to feed and to care for and medical treatment of the animals we house." explains Dr. Metzler. Luckily the animals inside were left unharmed. But in this economic climate any blow to the shelters finances hurts. If you would like to donate to the Pikes Peak Humane Society you can drop off a donation at the shelter at 8th Street and Abbot or you can CLICK HERE.
