MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Singer Dolly Parton is hoisting the Jolly Roger in Myrtle Beach as she opens her new dinner theater this weekend.
Parton said Friday her western-themed Dixie Stampede show was very successful over 19 years but says it was time for a change and pirates are a theme that everyone can enjoy.
Parton says she started thinking of the new show about four years ago. She says the opening was delayed a bit because of the troubled economy.
Pirates Voyage features two pirate galleons and a sunken wreck in a 15-foot deep indoor lagoon. It opens Friday evening with a VIP performance and opens to the public Saturday night.
The show features pirate battles and mermaids and represents an $11 million investment.
