Three dogs trapped in a mine in Teller County are now free. The dogs were able to leave the mine on their own and were captured by the Teller County Animal Control. According to a statement released Thursday, the dogs were in good shape. They were returned to their owner, who was not identified.

Employees at the mine noticed the dogs Tuesday. They did not know how long they had been down there or how they got in. They apparently climbed to safety overnight and were found by an employee around 7:30 Thursday morning.

Rescuers did not plan to enter the mine because it is not easily accessible.
