DOC orders prompt response to alerts

Colorado Springs, CO - Parole officers must now respond within two hours to alerts from electronic monitoring equipment worn by state parolees.
Colorado Department of Corrections officials made the announcement Tuesday following a review of its policies and operations after the slaying of the department's executive director Tom Clements, who died March 19. Parole records show that white supremacist gang member Evan Ebel had had slipped his ankle bracelet five days before Clements' death. Ebel is a suspect in Clements' death.
Colorado's governor last week announced a sweeping review of the state's prison and parole operations.
Investigators are trying to determine whether Clements' slaying was an isolated attack or done at the direction of top members of the 211 Crew.
