Different giveaways touting Bob Telmosse's legacy confuse some

When businessman Bob Telmossé died in 2006 following a long illness, some wondered if the Christmas giveaway event he hosted for more than 20 years would continue.  It has, yet in two separate and different forms which are a cause for confusion for some who would like to donate or receive donations.

The Bob Telmossé Christmas Giveaway on Monday, December 20 is open to anyone.  The Best Christmas Ever on Tuesday, December 21 is an invitation-only event restricted to 8,000 people who must meet qualifying circumstances.  Both events will accept donations of toys, bicycles, cash, frozen turkeys, and non-perishable items for holiday meals.

"Our real focus for this event is to allow kids to come in and pick their own toy for Christmas, so we like donations of new toys," said Thomas Zurenko, president of the Board of Directors of The Bob Telmossé Foundation.

The Bob Telmossé Christmas Giveaway is the direct descendant of Telmossé's original event, which he oversaw for more than 20 years before health problems began to take their toll in 2003, leading to his death in 2006.  The Best Christmas Ever event is not directly related to the original Telmossé event, but its founder says its purpose is to honor his legacy.  "The event grew out of the Bob Telmossé giveaway and Bob was such a great instigator and entrepreneur," Steve Bigari told News First 5 on Monday.  "To have that 25-year legacy to anything but live on would just be unconscionable."

Having the two separate and distinct, yet similar events back-to-back while taking in donations simultaneously has caused confusion for some in the community.  "I don't think that there's any conflict," said Zurenko," but we need to just find a way to work better to provide the best we can for those that are in need without pulling everyone in different directions."
