There's a new game in town, promising millions, if your luck is right. It looks and acts like Powerball, but it isn't.
Take a look at the differences among the three Colorado Lottery drawings:
Mega Millions jackpots start at 12 million.
Powerball jackpots start at 20 million.
Lotto jackpots start at one million.
The odds of winning the jackpot for Mega Millions are 1 in 176 million.
For Powerball, the odds are 1 in 196 million.
Lotto gives you the best odds of winning the jackpot at 1 in 5.3 million.
Your chances of winning overall for Mega Millions is 1 in 40.
Powerball's odds are 1 in 36.
Lotto's odds are 1 in 35.
All games cost a dollar to play.
Mega Millions drawings are on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Powerball and Lotto are on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Colorado Lottery says 36 cents of every dollar spent on the Lotto drawing goes directly to programs across the state to support trails, open space, parks, even education. The other two games are multi-state games, so it's harder to quantify the breakdown, but the Colorado Lottery says after the payouts and other costs, money spent on those games stays in the state for the same programs.
