Westminster Police Chief, Lee Birk, began a press conference at 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24 by thanking both the surrounding communities and law enforcements agencies, local, state, and federal, for the outpour of support and dedication to the case involving Jessica Ridgeway.
Birk stated suspect 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg was arrested and taken into custody Wednesday morning.
Sigg was a student at Arapahoe Community College and was from Westminster, the same neighborhood as Jessica.
Because Sigg is still a minor, many details about how the case will continue have been sealed. However, it was released that Sigg is being charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Second Degree Kidnapping. Sigg's first court appearance is tentatively scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday, October 25 at the Jefferson County Court.
Officials also stressed the importance that community members remember the investigation is still ongoing. With the release of Sigg's mugshot, they hope people may recognize the picture and will continue to call in any information they have that may be pertinent in the case.
