A well-known Pueblo family was aboard a Lear jet that crashed in Pueblo last night. It happened at the Pueblo Municipal Airport around 7:15 p.m. Eddie DeRose and his family were traveling to Las Vegas to watch the superbowl on the big screens.
"We went off the runway into the prairie, it ripped the wheels off and we were sliding all over the gulleys," said DeRose. "It was scary."
There were two crew members on board along with Eddie, his three sons, three grandson and son-in-law. "We all made it," said DeRose. "Nobody got hurt."
The accident happened as a blustery snow-storm moved across Colorado. Blowing snow was come down hard at the time of the crash. However, it's not clear if the incident was weather related according the airport's director of aviation.
"It's such a safe plane we never worried about it," said DeRose. "It was just one those freak accident."
The airport was shut down overnight so crews could remove the damaged aircraft and snow.
The football stadium at Colorado State University-Pueblo is named after Eddie and his wife Neta.
