A Pueblo Deputy went into a burning home last night to save a woman trapped by fire. It happened just before midnight at a home in the 2500 block of Catalpa St. in Eastern Pueblo County.

The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Brandon Talton was first on the scene and saw smoke coming from the attic of the home.

The 78 year old homeowner, Loren Hawkins, told Deputy Talton that his wife was still inside and on oxygen. Deputy Talton entered the burning home, found and rescued Colleen Hawkins.

Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins were both taken to Parkview Medical Center Emergency Room due to smoke inhalation. The Deputy was also treated on-scene for smoke inhalation.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. The house was not a total loss, but it will need a new roof. Unfortunately, Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins were not insured. They're staying with a family member right now.
