Thanksgiving, it's a holiday known for family traditions. That came to horrifying halt Thursday when El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies say 76 year old Aylais Oliver shot and killed his son, 49 year old Keith at Oliver's home near the Widefield / Security area.
According to the arrest affidavit, Oliver and his son had been arguing throughout the day. Oliver's wife asked Keith to leave. When he refused, Oliver told investigators he went upstairs to his bedroom and pulled out his revolver. That's when things began to escalate quickly. "That argument escalated to the point where the father grabbed a handgun and shot his son once in the head." says Joe Breister with the sheriff's office.
According to Oliver's statement he remembers little before the shooting. He told investigators he was angry at his son and the two exchanged words about being a man as he raised his gun. Oliver made no qualms about what happened next. "It was said to our deputies upon arrival. That came directly from the father that he had just shot his son in the head." explains Breister.
Oliver told deputies after the shooting he sat down on the garage steps until his wife asked him to drop his gun. Aylais Oliver is currently being held without bond at the El Paso County Detention Center. He is expected to be in court on December 2nd.
