Denver Zoo seeks $2 admission hike

DENVER (AP) - The Denver Zoo is asking permission to hike admission fees to cover rising costs of animal food and veterinary care.

The zoo will ask a city council subcommittee Wednesday for permission to charge $2 more across all age groups during the March through October high season. That would result in a $17 general admission.

During the November through February off-season, the zoo wants to charge $1 more, resulting in a $13 general admission.

City officials say the cost increase is likely to be approved. The zoo cares for 4,000 animals and last raised admission fees in 2012.

The zoo is not seeking to increase annual membership fees.
