DENVER, Aug. 6, 2013 - Led by new coach Brian Shaw, the Denver Nuggets will begin their quest for an 11th straight playoff appearance Oct. 30 when they open the 2013-14 NBA season on the road against the Sacramento Kings.
The Nuggets, who won a team-record 57 games last season, play their home opener at Pepsi Center on Nov. 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers, kicking off a three-game homestand that also includes dates with the San Antonio Spurs (Nov. 5) and Atlanta Hawks (Nov. 7).
"There's no better way to start the home schedule than on a Friday night in the Mile High City," said Che Vialpando, Vice President of Ticket Sales and Team Marketing for the Nuggets. "The atmosphere on Nov. 1 will be absolutely electric. We can't wait to introduce our fans, season ticket holders and the city of Denver to our new team and the new improvements we have made to Pepsi Center."
Despite having the NBA's third-youngest roster at the start of 2012-13, the Nuggets captured the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, winning a team-record 38 home games, including their final 23 at Pepsi Center.
The Nuggets are the only two NBA teams (San Antonio) to reach the postseason in each of the past 10 years. Denver has won three division titles and posted 50 wins five times during that span.
The Nuggets will look to continue their long run of success under Shaw, who won five NBA titles as a player and assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. Shaw will face Kobe Bryant the Lakers for the first time Nov. 13 in Denver.
Shaw spent the past two seasons as the associate head coach for the Indiana Pacers; the Nuggets play the Pacers in Denver on Jan. 25 and travel to Indianapolis on Feb. 10. LeBron James and the two-time defending NBA-champion Miami Heat make their only appearance in Denver on Dec. 30, while the New York Knicks visit on Nov. 29.
The Golden State Warriors, who upset the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs last spring, come to Pepsi Center on Dec. 20 and return for the regular-season finale on April 16.
Altitude Sports & Entertainment will televise 76 non-exclusive Nuggets games in high definition. A complete Altitude schedule will be released at a later date. All 82 games also will be broadcast on the Altitude Radio Network.
The Nuggets are scheduled to appear on national television 20 times in 2013-14 (six on TNT, seven on ESPN and seven on NBA TV).
