DENVER (AP) - A research curator who appears on the PBS children's television series "Dinosaur Train" has been named the vice president of research and collections and chief curator for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

The Denver museum said Tuesday that Scott Sampson has been chosen to replace Kirk Johnson, who left in July to become director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington. His appointment is effective Feb. 28.

Sampson is a research curator with the Natural History Museum of Utah and appears as Dr. Scott the Paleontologist on "Dinosaur Train." He has been on the board of trustees for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science the past two years.
