Denver Mayor Vidal attends CU-Denver commencement

DENVER (AP) - Denver interim Mayor Guillermo "Bill" Vidal will be attending the University of Colorado at Denver commencement for about 2,100 students.

Vidal graduated from the university with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and will be receiving the 2011 University of Colorado Denver Alumni Appreciation Award. The ceremony will be Saturday morning at the Auraria campus.

Vidal became mayor after John Hickenlooper took over as Colorado governor. Vidal is a Cuban immigrant and Denver's first foreign-born mayor. He will leave office July 18 when a new mayor is sworn in.
