Denver man killed in backcountry skiing accident

DENVER (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old backcountry skier was killed when he slid about 1,500 feet down a couloir west of Silverthorne.

The Summit County Rescue Group said in a news release Saturday that Jeff Ipsen of Denver was skiing with his brother and two friends Friday afternoon when he apparently fell and slid down the Silver Couloir into some rocks.

The Denver Post reports 36 rescuers were deployed when the accident was reported just after 3 p.m.
