Denver gun rally supports 2nd Amendment

DENVER (AP) - Hundreds of people have turned out for a pro-gun rally in Denver, part of nationwide effort to support the Second Amendment amid talk of new gun-control measures.

The Denver Post reports the crowd gathered outside the State Capitol Saturday with signs reading "Party like it's 1776" and "Registration is the first step to confiscation."

Republican State Rep. Chris Holbert of Parker told the crowd the Second Amendment is "a defense against tyranny." He vowed he wouldn't compromise on the amendment.

Justin Durnford, who was waving a Tea Party flag, said people should be able to have the weapons they choose to protect themselves and their families.

The rallies came days after President Barack Obama unveiled a package of gun-control proposals in response to mass shootings in Colorado and Connecticut.
