COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Rhett Rakhshani's power-play goal at 2:59 of the second period was the game-winner as Denver beat Colorado College 2-1 Friday to take over sole possession of first place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Pioneers (10-4-1, 8-2-1) killed off a power play in the final minute against the Tigers (10-4-1, 7-3-1), who skated the last 47 seconds with a 6-on-4 advantage. The Pioneers have 17 points, two more than the Tigers.
The two-game series resumes Saturday at Denver.
Rakhshani's goal gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead and helped Denver withstand a third-period goal by Nate Prosser.
Tyler Ruegsegger staked Denver to a 1-0 lead at 3:36 of the first period.
Marc Cheverie made 26 saves for Denver, while Joe Howe stopped 16 for the Tigers.
