A rally in support of-in state tuition for immigrants turned into a public debate today. About three dozen students gathered at CSU-Pueblo to show their support for Senate Bill 126. One student, Shaun Borah was passing by and stopped to speak out against the bill.

The measure would allow illegal immigrants in-state tuition status if they attend a Colorado school for at least three years and graduate from a high school in the state.

Supporters say it would allow more students the opportunity to attend college. "What that will allow is revenue boost for our universities and community colleges here in Colorado," said Amber Miller, a CSU-Pueblo student.

Opponents argue undocumented workers don't pay state taxes and don't deserve a break on tuition. "You're not really supporting the system you want to be a part of, and if you're not going to pay into the system, you shouldn't reap the benefits of it," said Borah, a junior at CSU-Pueblo.

The legislation passed a Senate committee in February, but it still must be voted on it the full Senate and the House.
