Death Valley nears hottest recorded temperature

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - The hottest place on the planet will be hotter than usual today. Forecasters are predicting a high of 128 degrees today in Death Valley, California. That's not far below the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth: a reading of 134, recorded in Death Valley in 1913. A heat wave has much of the Southwest sizzling.
