New research indicates that the death rate soars for binge drinkers when the also have high blood pressure.
Scientists at Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea found the risk of cardiovascular death in men with a blood pressure of at least 168 over 100 was three times higher for drinkers than non-drinkers.
For men who consumed six or more drinks on one occasion, the risk of heart-related death was four times higher.
For men who drank 12 or more drinks in a row, the death rate soared to 12 times that of non drinkers.
The study is published in published Stroke: The Journal of the American Medical Association.
