The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are searching for clues in the death of 14 year-old Ashley Patterson in Pueblo West. Her body was found Sunday afternoon after she was reported missing.
Patterson was found in a field near Spaulding and Bayfield. That's near Purcell and Highway 50.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office tells News First, Ashley Patterson asked her mom to go somewhere around 1 p.m. When she wasn't home by 3 p.m., her mother called the Sheriff's Office, and deputies found Patterson's body at 4:10 p.m.
"Everybody needs to be cautious, know where their children are, who their with, those kinds of safety mechanisms. We hope to solve this quickly, so we can put the community's mind to rest," says El Paso County Sheriff's Office Bureau Chief Charlene Graham.
Neighbors say they're worried about the safety of their own families, especially those who have children.
Investigators plan to work around the clock to collect evidence and follow up on any leads, but they are looking for anyone who may have seen something to talk with them.
The Pueblo County Coroner's office will perform an autopsy to find the manner and cause of death. Detectives say they see no obvious signs of trauma, but believe she was killed.
